Goupil & Cie is delighted to bring to the view of passionate Bordeaux enthusiasts the first chapter out of three of a standalone single owner’s collection of some of the right and left bank’s finest wines with vintages starting from the mid-20th century. Within this first chapter, the owner’s tastes from the two parts of the Gironde estuary will be equally reflected in Premiers grands crus classés as well as Grands crus classés.
With no heir sharing his passion, the current owner of this unique collection entrusted Goupil & Cie to lead the sale of a lifelong assembling quest. With countless trips to the Bordeaux region during his younger years which have turned into regular pilgrimages later on, he has diligently forged sensitivity and knowledge amongst the fifty-seven Bordeaux appellations. From the tannic, highly structured and powerful left bank most recognisable wines to some of the most emblematic floral scents of Pomerol and sensuous flavours of Saint-Emilion through more personal discoveries of less known vineyards, his whole cellar has become overtime greater than the sum of its parts.
His long-lasting preferences and occasional “coups de coeur” have never been ignored in the way he created his collection, offering today’s novices and connoisseurs an instant balance of estates, vintages, prices and drinking windows. Some collectors often say that they did not aspire to be or to become one but life has rather spawned encounters allowing them to gather together emotional and purposeful properties. His passion bloomed in the early 2000s with a new inclination for extra-ordinary wines interceding smoothness and muscularity coupled with a sense of sureness to let the majority of his new cases age to achieve their full potential. During the same period of time, vintages reaching their maturity were also opened for self-indulgent moments and some great formats for special occasions. Those years have naturally and harmoniously further complexified his cellar blend.
This stellar collection bespeaks patience and passion to assemble prestigious exceptional vintages together without compromising personal enjoyment and longer-term appreciation, and will undoubtedly please the most sophisticated palates of today and tomorrow.
