EXPLORING THE BENEFITS OF ART FOR CHILDREN

According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, better known as UNESCO, art is essential for the full development of the individual. Arts education promotes the development of skills, values and behaviors with competencies such as creativity, collaboration and imaginative problem solving. These in turn lead to greater resiliency, an increased appreciation of cultural diversity and freedom of expression, and development of innovation and critical thinking skills.

Similarly, a literature review by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in the United States covering the literature published between 2000 and 2015 found that children who were exposed to various forms of arts such as singing, music, dance and visual arts multiple times a week appeared to develop more advanced and sophisticated social skills.

CONTRIBUTING TO ART EXPRESSION

The International Child Art Foundation stated that the skill of thinking creatively that is developed as a result of children being exposed to arts and crafts, enabled them to develop more original and innovative thoughts, which are deemed to be key attributes for individual success and social prosperity.

We should do our part and encourage them to spend more time practising different forms of art as an activity that they can either perform by themselves, with schoolmates and friends, or one that can also bring different generations together at home or within the community.

Goupil & Cie, as a corporate citizen committed to make a tangible impact in the community, has engaged a global initiative to provide children in orphanages and hospitals with high quality art and craft tools to help them to express their creativity and foster unity.

We can equip children with these life-long assets from an early stage. Our role at Goupil & Cie is to contribute to the improvement of well-being for all children by creating expression opportunities that can help children with broader developmental trajectories.
